  • RADIATOR AND COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE

Ormsby Auto provides the following services:

    • Radiator repair and replacement
    • Gasket, seal, cooling line, and cooling hose replacement
    • Water pump replacement
    • Coolant flush
    • Thermostat replacement

Proper maintenance of your vehicles cooling system is very important and can prevent costly failures such as: radiator leak, water pump failure, and most important of all, engine failure. There are times that external physical damage can cause radiator's leak. But, most radiator leaks or cloggs are caused by internal damages due to improper maintenance. Over time rust, scale and other harmful residues can build-up throughout your engine’s cooling system.  Traditional methods of simply draining the radiator will not remove all of your old coolant or clean your system. If used fluid and residue is left in your radiator, it will contaminate the new coolant and eventually can cause clogging and overheating that will decrease the life of your engine and radiator.  The benefit of having this service is to restore cooling system efficiency, prevents rust and corrosion, reduces harmful deposits from forming which will help prevent clogging and overheating, and in return will extends radiator and cooling system life. Manufacturers recommend that this service is to be done every 15,000 to 30,000 miles to improve the overall maintenance of your cooling system.  The advantage of our service are to conduct a complete exchange in just 15 minutes, we utilize a clean, safe and environmentally friendly process, and we deliver a high quality service that can give you peace of mind.

  • TRANSMISSION SERVICE

Ormsby provides transmission replacement, repair, and services per factory standards. Due to high labor cost of repairing a bad transmission, or high cost of purchasing a new transmission, it is a common practice to replace a faulty transmission with a remanufactured or rebuilt transmission. Companies such as Jasper and PowerTrain provide reliable remanufactured transmissions at an affordable cost.

Generally speaking, your transmission should last you the life of your car if you maintain a proper factory maintenance schedule. The major component of transmission, is the transmission fluid. As fluid ages, contaminants build-up, viscosity breaks down and your car’s transmission is left vulnerable to breakdowns, even from daily wear and tear.  Manufacturers recommend changing fluid to help reduce component failure, improve performance, and increase vehicle longevity.  The traditional method of draining and filling will only replace 30% of your fluid, as for the rest of 70% is contaminated with harmful fluids. We provide you with the state of the art transmission flush system which performs 100% of the fluid exchange.

  • OIL & FILTER CHANGE

Oil and filter are the two most critical maintenance component of every vehicle. A car maintained with timely oil and filter replecement, and with factory specified components, will have a longer life, a reponsive and fuel efficient engine with a smoother ride, and less problematic. Here at Ormsby Auto, we follow strict guidelines in changing your vehicle's oil and filter to meet all original manufacturer specifications. We make sure, the type of oil, and filter meet the factory spec in every aspect, and not just some of that.

How often should oil and filter be changed

Change oil and filter often enough to protect the engine from premature wear and viscosity breakdown. For most cars and light trucks, the standard recommendation is to change oil and filter every six months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first. Most late model owner's manuals say that except for "Severe Service" applications, oil change interval can be safely stretched to once a year or every 7,500 miles, with filter changes at every other oil change.

When auto makers make such recommendations, one assumes they are based on extensive durability testing. After all, auto makers themselves would have to bear the warranty costs should their maintenance recommendations prove inadequate.

Except for Chrysler's 7/70 powertrain warranty, and a few others that go up to 5/50 or 6/60, most new car powertrain warranties don't go beyond 3/36. So where's the risk? There isn't any.

With proper maintenance, there is no reason an engine shouldn't go 100,000 miles or more without developing a thirst for oil. That is why most oil companies, as well as aftermarket service professionals, recommend changing oil and filter every six months or 3,000 miles.

They also make such recommendations because many motorists are not aware that they should follow the "Severe Service" maintenance schedule in their owner's manual, calling for oil and filter change intervals of three to six months or 3,000 miles. Severe service (as defined by auto makers themselves) includes:

    • Making frequent short trips (less than five miles)
    • Making frequent short trips (less than 10 miles) when temperatures are below freezing
    • Driving in hot weather stop-and-go traffic
    • Extensive idling and/or low speed driving for long periods of time (taxi, police, door-to-door delivery, etc.)
    • Driving at sustained high speeds during hot weather
    • Towing a trailer
    • Driving in areas with heavy dust (gravel roads, construction zones, etc.)

Protective additives in a motor oil do not hold up as well under such driving conditions for several reasons. If the engine is not running long enough to get the oil hot, condensation and fuel vapors will not boil off. Contaminants will accumulate in the crankcase, leading to formation of corrosive acids and sludge.

Excessive idling and high operating temperatures from towing and high speed driving during hot weather accelerate viscosity breakdown. Exposure to dust can put dirt particles in the crankcase.

The filter also needs to be changed every time for two reasons. Today's pint-sized filters do not contain as much filter material as their quart-sized counterparts. The filter contains dirty oil that can contaminate fresh oil added during an oil change.

Considering what four quarts of oil and a filter cost, versus the cost of replacing an engine, it is better to change oil and filter a little more often than might be absolutely necessary rather than risk not changing it often enough.

  • COMPLETE TUNE UP

As it says "tune up", and it means making sure your engine performs to its fullest capacity, smoothly, responsively, and to the best mileage per gallon. This takes checking many components within your vehicle and adjusting or replacing faulty parts. Then, what should a complete tune-up include?

    • A complete tune-up should combine elements of preventive maintenance, adjustment and performance analysis. One of the main reasons people bring a vehicle in for a tune-up is because they are experiencing some kind of drivability problem.

    • Hard starting, stalling, hesitation, misfiring, poor fuel economy, or lack of power are seldom cured by a new set of spark plugs and a few turns of a screwdriver. Every tune-up should include a comprehensive performance check to verify that no drivability problems or trouble codes exist.

    • Another item that should be included is an emissions check. Thirty-five states now have some type of annual vehicle emissions inspection program, and all but two include a tailpipe emissions check. Most mechanics will check EGR valve operation, the PCV valve, and make a visual inspection of other emission control components and plumbing. But unless an actual emissions performance check is made at the tailpipe, there is no way to know whether or not the vehicle will meet applicable emission standards. An emissions check is a must.

    • The best guide to tune-up frequency is probably the recommended spark plug replacement interval in a vehicle's owner’s manual.

  • ENGINE REPLACEMENT

Engine Replacement or swap, requires indepth knowledge of vehicle components. It is an specialty on its own and requires several days of work. Our Certified Master Technicians, have over 25 years of experience in this field and they perform engine swaps on a weekly basis. We are very proud of our elite technical staff and we are very confident of our quality of service. That is why we provide optional 90 days, 12 months/ 12000 miles, and 3 years / 100K miles warranty on engine replacements and we offer optional extended service contracts for our engine swaps.

    Passenger Cars

    Please call for

    Trailers & Trucks

Here at Ormsby Auto, we are equipped with the latest technology and state of the art equipment to inspect your car per State of Maryland safety requirements. All inspections are performed by ASE certified Master Technicians who are certified by the State of Maryland.

    Inspection Process

Once we inspect your car, either your car passes or fails. You are responsible for the Inspection Fee as posted above, regardless of it passes or fails. If it passes, we issue a certificate on behalf of State of Maryland, and your next step is MVA. If it fails the inspection, we give you the list of required repairs and an estimate to repair them. You are free to order us to make repairs, or to go to your choice of repair shop. Once repairs are completed, you will return your car to us for re-inpection. You may be charged for Re-Inspection fee of $35.00 if required. If we perform your repairs, we will waive this fee.

    Tinted Windows

State of Maryland requires the tint on all windows of a standard sedan vehicle to be better than 35%. Per state requirements, we measure light through-put on all windows. If it is less than 35%, that is a failure point and the tint must be removed to pass the inspection. For SUV's and Trucks, only the front windsheild and two front door windows must pass the requirement. Rear windows are not required.

All non-factory custom tint require tint measurment. There is an additional tint fee of $25.00 applied if your vehicle has non-factory tint applied on window surface.

We Make it Fast, We Make it Easy

Please allow 1 to 2 hours for initial inspection. Re-inspections are faster and take from 15 minutes up to an hour, depending issues in hand.

  • PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Here at Ormsby Auto, we are equipped with the latest information technology and access to full factory requirements to maintain your vehicle per manufacturer specification. This will increase the reliability of your car while lowering the repair cost.

    Why cars need preventive maintenance

Manufacturers know that a properly maintained car will be more dependable, safer, last longer, and increase your satisfaction with their product. Car makers and owners also have a responsibility to make sure emission controls receive regular service and are functioning properly. Regular maintenance helps accomplish these goals by keeping your engine running efficiently and eliminating potential problems that may leave you stranded.

    What's in it for you?

    • More Dependable Car
    • A car that retains the "new car feel"
    • Less chance of a costly breakdown
    • A safer car for you and your family
    • Doing your part for cleaner air
    • A car worth more at trade in or sale
    • An intact warranty

    Manufacturer Maintenance Schedules

The manufacturer creates detailed maintenance schedules outlining specific operations to be performed on various components and systems. This is done at different mileage intervals to ensure proper operation and prevent premature wear. The manufacturer also indicates what services must be done to maintain the factory warranty and extended warranty.

    ALLDATA(R) Automotive Information System

This service facility is equipped with an automotive information system that provides this detailed data. The ALLDATA(R) system even lists high-tech specialty lubricants required for your particular car. Other information includes vehicle specific repair and diagnostic information and factory-issued Technical Service Bulletins. The bottom line is efficient, dependable and cost-effective service for you.

  • EMISSION TEST

These days, every state has established certain emission guide lines against harmful by products of vehicle operation. Emission test is very much mandatory once a year or once every two years. Here in the State of Maryland we are not exempt. Our expert technicians can diagnose and repair all emission issues. If you fail an emission test by the State, you are given a printed failure report. We can pin point the faulty components and either adjust, clean, or replace those items. In general, faulty components are either related to Exhaust System, Ignition System, Fuel System, or a combination of these systems. Our state of the art electronic scanning computers, will detect and isolate the faulty component and by performing the required repairs, bring your vehicle to the state requirements to pass the Emission test.

  • EXHAUST AND MUFFLER SYSTEM

Your car's exhaust system is not only a noise reducing component, but also acts as a filter to reduce environmental pollution. A well functioning muffler and exhaust system reduces noise, reduces pollution, and enhances engine performance.

We provide full Exhaust and Muffler system repair and replacement including:

    • Analyze exhaust gases for emission standards
    • Test, diagnose, and repaire mission problems
    • Catalytic Converter replacement
    • Oxygen sensor replacement
    • Muffler repair / replacement
    • Down pipe, center pipe, and tail pipe repair / replacement
    • Exhaust Manifold(s) replacement
    • Bracket, flange, gasket, and other component repair or replacement
  • AIR CONDITIONING

Here at Ormsby Auto, we provide a full service of your Air Conditioning system and we offer free seasonal inspection as a preventive measure to ensure your AC funtioning at its best performance.

Our services include annual maintenance of AC just prior to the start of season, or repair and replacement of components, which may fail during the course of summer months. These services can be listed as:

    • Test AC performance
    • Diagnose and isolate faulty components
    • Recharge refrigerant
    • Vacuum test and Pin Point any leaks
    • Repair or replacement AC lines and hoses
    • Repair or replacement Evaporator, Condenser, Compressor, and/or any other malfunctioning component
    • Repair cabin circulation
    • Adjust and repair cabin temperature control

The following is the list of major components of your AC system:

Evaporator - A device with tubes and fins to remove heat from the passenger compartment using the same principle that cools your skin when air evaporates the water after you are wet.

Condenser - A device much like an evaporator where the outside air picks up the heat from the refrigerant, causing it to condense back into a liquid.

Compressor - A component that compresses the evaporated refrigerant to rise its boiling point so it can condense in the condenser at outside air temperatures.

Orifice tube - A restriction in the refrigerant hose causing a pressure drop which lowers the boiling point so the refrigerant can evaporate in the evaporator.

Refrigerant - R-12 (common trade name: Freon) and R-134a are chemicals that have ideal properties to evaporate and condense in an automotive air conditioning system. R-12 is known to be an ozone depleting substance, so it has been replaced in newer cars with R-134a, which does not deplete ozone. Most vehicles can be retrofitted to use R-134a.

  • TIRE SALES AND SERVICE

Tires need no costly service except for maintaining proper tire pressure, proper balancing, and rotating tires periodically to prevent excessive wear, uneven wear, flat spot, feathering, cupping, pitting, vehicle vibration, kicking or knocking. These are inexpensive services but are crucial to the life of vehicle tires and its ease and comfort. Tire problems are not just limited to tires themselves, but also are originated as a result of other faulty components such as rims, miss alignment, worn and leaky shocks/struts, and deformed frame, faulty suspension, or faulty steering system components.

If you are purchasing new tires, we assist you with choosing right tires for your car based on factory standards, your usage of vehicle, and consumer satisfaction ratings. We will make sure you get the right tires for your purpose.

Ormsby Auto provides full tire service:

    • Free tire safety check
    • Tire wear measurement
    • Uneven wear detection
    • Tire balance
    • Tire rotation
    • Tire pressure adjustment to factory spec
    • Flat tire repair
    • Install new tires; mount and balance
    • Free disposal of old tires
    • Replace tire valve stem
    • Replace Tire sensor
    • Repair or replace rim
    • Perform 4 wheel alignment
    • Offer extended warranty on new tires

We provide free tire safety check with every visit. We will measure tire thread wear, uneven wear, balance and rotate if needed, fix flat tire, and diagnose tire problem if originated by another component.

  • TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT AND SERVICE

Timing belt is one of the most crucial components of an engine. In today's cars, timing belts have replaced timing chains. Both belts and chains ensure that crankshaft, pistons and valves (the heart of your engine) operate together in proper sequence. Belts are lighter, quieter and more efficient than chains. Our expert master technicians are equipped with latest digital tools to install, adjust, and set proper time and tension for precision operation of timing belt in your car. Since timing belt is generally covered by a housing, we can not visually inspect the condition of your timing belt. We follow manufacturer specifications and recommend our clients for due services. Timing belts crack, dry, and are subject to wear and tear. They should be replaced between 60k to 100k miles, depending on factory recommendations.

    We provide the following services:

    • Adjust and set timing with precision instruments
    • Replace and install Timing Belt or Chain
    • Inspect and replace if necessary: cam seals, crank seals, oil pump, and water pump
    • Inspect and replace if necessary: belt tensioner, belt idler, accessory belts, or serpentine belts
    • Inspect and properly install timing belt cover and seal

    Why replace the belt?

Like other components, timing belts wear out. Proper maintenance requires belt replacement at regular intervals--before they break.

    Where are the belts located?

Timing belts are on the front of the engine protected by a plastic or metal housing.

    When should belts be replaced?

When a timing belt breaks, the engine stops. Replace belts before this occurs. Most manufacturers provide a suggested service life and replacement schedule for this critical component. In general, that is between 60k to 100k miles, depending upon manufacturer specification.

How do I know if my car has one?

Your vehicle manual may tell you, but you should ask your technician--he will know for sure.

    What is a "Free-Running" engine?

If the timing belt breaks on a free-running engine, the engine stops and you will need a tow to the repair shop. No mechanical damage occurs and the installation of a new belt is usually all that is needed to get you on your way.

    What is an "Interference" engine?

If the timing belt breaks on an interference engine, mechanical engine damage occurs. It most commonly involves open valves being struck by pistons, resulting in the need for expensive repairs. In extreme cases, a replacement engine may be required.

  • SHOCKS & STRUTS

Why shocks and struts should always be replaced in pairs

Unlike some steering and suspension components, there is no significant difference in wear rates between left and right shocks or struts. If one shock or strut is shot, chances are its companion also needs to be replaced.

For front versus rear, there can be differences in wear rates depending on vehicle loading and usage. Generally speaking, when front shocks or struts need replacing, so do those in the rear.

Shock absorbers and struts are designed to dampen spring oscillations as the suspension goes through jounce and rebound. This prevents unwanted body gyrations and helps keep the wheels in contact with the road.

The ride control elements inside perform this task by creating resistance, which in turn transforms the energy of motion into heat. The up and down strokes of the piston inside the shock or strut pumps fluid back and forth through metering orifices in the piston and valve body.

The resistance created by these orifices helps dampen spring oscillations while limiting body and suspension motions. The pumping friction heats the fluid and the heat then dissipates through the shock body into the surrounding air.

After zillions of such cycles, the cylinder bore, piston and shaft seals eventually wear out. Though original equipment shocks have improved in recent years, many still may need replacing in as little as 30,000 miles. With struts, the lifespan is about double that of a shock.

Problem is most people do not notice the gradual deterioration in ride quality until things get really bad. Many shocks and struts are not replaced as often as they should be. Replacement is needed if any of the following symptoms are noted:

    • A bouncy or uncomfortable ride
    • Nose dive when braking
    • Excessive body sway when cornering
    • Tail squat when accelerating
    • Fluid leaks
    • Physical damage to the shock or strut itself or its mounting hardware
    • Cupped tire wear
    • Indications of bottoming (check suspension stops)
    • Vehicle fails a bounce test (more than two oscillations after rocking and releasing the bumper)
    • When the rod on a gas pressurized shock or strut does not extend by itself (indicating it has lost its gas charge)
